Kavumu, South Kivu Province – September 1, 2025. Despite the ongoing challenges caused by the occupation of the region, the children of Buene House of Children have successfully returned to school at the beginning of the new academic year.
This new school year, welcomed with joy and excitement, reflects the remarkable resilience of these children. Despite the difficult circumstances they face, they continue to pursue their education with hope and determination. For the caregivers and staff at the orphanage, seeing the children walk through the school gates once again is a powerful symbol of hope, courage, and perseverance.
“Education remains the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and vulnerability. That is why, even in times of insecurity, we continue to fight to ensure that every child has access to education.”
Julien Cubaka,
Program Officer, Buene Hope Foundation
This school reopening is more than just the beginning of a new academic year. It sends a powerful message about the importance of protecting children and investing in their future, even during times of crisis.
Education remains a beacon of hope and a pathway toward lasting change.
